Just last week over the holidays, Joe Biden signed the Pascua Tribal Act which is a big step in right direction for Tuscon to launch a casino. The new legislation will designate the Tribe’s “Old Pascua Land” to become Native American territory which means there would be land for a new casino. In anticipation of this deal, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe has made agreements with the Tucson City Council to make “payments in lieu of tax”. These payments will give 2.6% of all casino retail sales to the city, offering a 2% tax on all food purchases, including alcohol, as well as a $4 day charge for each hotel room occupied. This new project will take a few years to complete and no construction plans have been officially put in place but the Pascua Yaqui Tribe already owns the Casino del Sol Resort and the Casino of the Sun.
