After the six casino licenses in Macau were reinstated, an announcement came out that the operators would be allowed to open up “foreigner only” rooms in their casinos. According to the announcement from Macau’s Executive Council, the new rule will enable the casinos that wish to use these rooms a 5% waiver on the additional tax for foreign player revenue. Gaming tax will remain at 40% but the new rooms will help the casinos to boost their local tourism. A quote from the Secretary for Administration of Justice states, “…currently, the gaming revenue created by these foreign clients is quite low, therefore we hope that these incentivizing measures request, or require, the concessionaires to launch projects to attract foreign tourists.”
