New Georgia Bill Sparks Hope For Sports Betting

Hope for Georgia sports betting has sparked again as 11 state senators announced a new bill that would bring sports betting to the Peach State. If approved the new initiative would allow sports betting to be put into law without a ballot initiative. The bill, SB 57 is named the Georgia Sports Betting Integrity Act, looking to give regulation to the Georgia Lottery, and if legalized the Georgia Sports Betting Integrity Act will allow 18 Type 1 licenses which would allow:

  1. Professional sports teams or their designees
  2. Governing bodies that hold professional golf tournaments
  3. Owners of auto race facilities associated with the stock car auto racing national tour or the international motor sports car tour
  4. The Georgia Lottery Corporation

In short, if the new bill is legalized, all professional sports teams would be eligible for a license. It would also open the door for many popular sports betting operators such as, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM. Caesars Sportsbook and many more to begin partnerships and acquire licenses.
