Ohio's Two-Year Budget Bill Could Allow for More Sports Gaming Facilities

The latest version of Ohio’s two-year budget bill includes language that could allow for more sports gaming facilities in Cuyahoga County and other large counties. If passed, House Bill 33 would allow Cuyahoga, Franklin, and Hamilton counties to have seven sports gaming facilities, rather than the five currently allowed under state law. This could provide an opportunity for previously rejected sportsbook applicants in Cuyahoga County, such as Harry Buffalo, Resilience Capital Partners, and Stark Enterprises. The bill also expands Medicaid coverage for Ohioans, including coverage for obesity treatment, such as nutrition counseling, behavioral therapy, and weight-loss surgeries. Other provisions in the bill include funding for various organizations and initiatives in Northeast Ohio and reimbursing emergency personnel deployed for the 2024 solar eclipse. The bill is expected to pass the full House and be revised by the Senate before being sent to Governor Mike DeWine.
