Sports betting is no stranger to social media but as the season rolls out, bettors are flooding in. Twitter has the most action with users using the hashtag, #GamblingTwitter daily to discuss and look at others tweets. Twitter actually came forward and released internal data showing in the past 12 months seven out of ten bettors on Twitter thought the gambling discussions on the app helped to drive more frequent and larger bets. A statistic from the data found 62% of bettors on the app place wagers weekly, 72% of bettors use the app to check the status of their bet after they place it, and 65% said they were motivated to place a bet on an event there was a lot of talk or hype about.
