The idea of of casinos in Thailand is becoming more of a reality as their House of Representatives has just approved a report to establish casinos for tourists and the local public that could have a final decision with “two or three years”. After two and a half hours of debate, the House voted in favor of evaluating the potential that casinos would have on tourism and their economy. Despite the positives of the report, the committee did say they weren’t suggesting legalization of gambling but rather aiming for an in-depth analysis of the possibilities of a legal casino industry. If legalized casinos would be open to locals and tourists over 21 and locals would need to show evidence that they have had over THB฿500,000 in their bank over six months. The proposal also suggests casino locations in Bangkok, the Eastern Economic Corridor, and 22 large tourist areas. Casinos are still a ways away for Thailand but progress is being made.
