Missouri House gives first-round approval to sports betting bill backed by major league teams and casinos. The bill needs one more vote before moving onto a Senate vote, where it has historically been blocked. If passed, a 10% tax rate would apply to sports wagers, with revenue going to the Missouri state education fund and overseen by the Missouri Gaming Commission. The bill would allow mobile betting and wagering at casinos. Supporters argue that Missourians are currently betting illegally or crossing state borders to bet in other states. Legalizing sports betting would also bring tax dollars to the state rather than unregulated offshore betting companies.
