Sothern California sports gambling ring busted

Five men have plead guilty to federal crimes for their roles in a sports betting operation that took wagers from professional athletes. The ring was lead by a former Oakland Athletics pitcher Wayne Nix.  Nix acknowledged receiving $245,000 from a pro football player, and $4,000 from a Major League Baseball coach. Records did not state if the athletes placed bets on their own team’s games.
