After debate between Maryland Lottery officials, mobile sports betting could be coming sooner than you think. Mobile sports betting was originally expected to launch before the Super Bowl in February but after a vote by the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC), the launch could be closer to November or December. Maryland is now in a 45-day application period where mobile and physical operators have begun submitting their paperwork to be considered, ending on October 21st. The recent vote will allow SWARC to distribute licenses as they go instead of delivering them all at once.

A recent report released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board found that revenue is booming in the Keystone State. Pennsylvania sportsbooks reportedly handled over $363 million in bets in August with revenue totaling $42.1 million. The handle in August was $30 million more than the prior July month but this is due in part to the NFL season launching last week. In total all forms of gambling in Pennsylvania combined to $425.4 million, a 4.24% increase from 2021. FanDuel is the leading online sportsbook provider in Pennsylvania with about 40% of the online sports betting market share.

Sports betting is no stranger to social media but as the season rolls out, bettors are flooding in. Twitter has the most action with users using the hashtag, #GamblingTwitter daily to discuss and look at others tweets. Twitter actually came forward and released internal data showing in the past 12 months seven out of ten bettors on Twitter thought the gambling discussions on the app helped to drive more frequent and larger bets.
