Maine mobile sports betting legal after GOV. Janet Mills signs bill
Maine looked to be a long shot for legal sports betting after Gov. Mills voted for a bill in early 2020 that could legalize sports betting and not much was heard about it in the time after. But recently Mills signed off on the bill allowing for retail and online sports betting to take place in the state. The legislation will be live July 24th 90 days from when the session ended on May 25th. As a part of the deal the three federally recognized tribes in Maine can either build a sports book, or partner with one of the existing sportsbook operators. With an additional 10 licenses for casinos and horse tracks in the state. Revenue will be taxed at 10% in the state and mobile licensing cost is relatively low at just $200,000.
